London 5

DAY 15, 31 Dec 2006 - Hari Raya Haji

Early in the morning, Tosh and Ur went to the nearby mosque to perform prayers for Hari Raya Haji. The mosque was in a building and most of them were black people. It was a great experience.

After we've had our breakfast at home, we got ready to go out. We were going to the Tower Of London. From Ur's house, we took a bus to the Elephant and Castle and we planned to take a train from the Elephant and Castle station to go to the Tower Of London. We wanted to try the train just for fun, since we've been taking the bus and tube quite often.

We bought our tickets at the counter and climbed the staircase to wait for our train. It was empty! There was no one here. We waited for a while but there was no sign of the train. So we decided to go back down and take a tube instead..haha

Tower Of London opens at 9am - 5pm. There was already a crowd waiting to get in. We had a printed voucher that we got from the internet, that enabled us to get 2 tickets for the price of 1 :)

The Tower of London has been around for more than a thousand years. There we saw the weapons, prison cell and a nice view of the Thames river. We spent about 3-4 hours here. We took the free tour by the Yeoman (Beefeater) which were offered every 30 minutes. It was fun listening to his stories

~the high walls

Everybody was going to see the crown jewels at the jewel tower. Those crowns were used by the king and queen. So many precious stones on their head, neck and wrist.

It was windy and very cold!

One of the towers displayed the weapon and tool that they used to use.

Below are some of the things that they used to torture the prisoners:

The Tower Bridge from far:

A few people from the olden days, doing their daily routine. They were real people!

That was the HMS Belfast at the back:

Another ceremony at the castle:

Then we went back to Ur's house and get ready to celebrate the New Year!

We got the chance to celebrate the New Year at London Eye! It was full of people!

The fireworks lasted for more than 15 minutes continuously. It was awesome!

It took us a few hours to get home. Many roads were closed and we had to walk quite far to get a bus.
